Incogni Review: Everything You Need To Know in 2025
Posts by Kelly IndahOctober 19, 2024
The amount of data that can be collected about you is amazing. It starts being collected the moment you log onto the internet.
Everything you do online adds to the data pile and helps data brokers get an accurate profile of you.
You may be surprised at what details they can find and accumulate.
For example, Google will know your internet browsing habits, where your IP address is located, your name, email address, date of birth, job details, and even your financial information.
In short, there is little they don’t know about you.
Not convinced? I requested all the data Google had on me, it’s an option available online.
The file was over 5GB, around the same as five million Word documents! I haven’t read it all yet.
Data brokers spend years accumulating this information and allow anyone to see it for a fee.
They can even sell your profile to companies, allowing them to target you for sales.
The data is taken from social media sites, property records, education databases, phone directories, and anywhere else the data broker bots can think to look.
In short, if you’ve posted any detail online at any time, the data broker will find it and add it to their file.
Fortunately, there is a way to combat them.
You can send any data broker a request to remove your details from their database. They must legally comply.
However, there are hundreds of data brokers, you need to send a letter to each one.
That’s time consuming. It’s estimated it would take you 300 hours to write to all of them.
Alongside this, the data broker may be obliged to remove your data, but that doesn’t stop them from putting it back on after a couple of months.
You’ll need to start the process all over again.
The simpler solution is to enlist the help of a date removal service, such as Incogni.
There are plenty offering help, you need to choose one that offers a genuine and high-quality service.
Hence the need to provide an Incogni review.
Introducing Incogni
Incogni first offered its services as a data removal specialist in 2022. That makes it one of the youngest data removal services available.
Fortunately, it has a good pedigree as it is owned and operated by SurfShark, a reputable and well-established cybersecurity expert.
When it was launched it worked with 76 data brokers, helping to remove your information from the web.
That’s an impressive number, but it’s more impressive that just a year later Incogni is working with nearly 200 data brokers.
The business is dedicated to expanding rapidly to give you the best possible service.
In a nutshell, the service is designed to make data removal easy.
Instead of you tracking down which data brokers have your information and asking them to remove it, Incogni does it all for you.
The process is fully automated and you’ll be regularly updated regarding the progress made.
Incogni provides a snapshot of the current situation, it shows data removal requests made, how many have been completed, the number in progress, and how many are being queried.
It should be noted that any queries will almost certainly need your input.
It’s usually a request for additional information. If you don’t supply it they can’t remove you from their database.
Services Offered
The main service offered by Incogni is the removal of your personal data from a large collection of data brokers. The number of brokers they work with is constantly expanding.
Fortunately, when they work out an agreement with a data broker they will automatically send them a data removal request on your behalf.
All you need is an active subscription to Incogni.
The service is fully automated, once you’ve provided the details to get them started they will scour the web and locate data brokers holding information about you.
They then send a removal request and track it.
If the request isn’t processed and your data removed in the legally defined period then Incogni will chase the broker up and take all necessary legal action.
The process is fast and efficient. Incogni was good enough to give me access to test the product out.
I can honestly say I was impressed.
Alongside automatically removing data from brokers, Incogni offers protection against spam and phishing, which can be useful.
It’s worth noting that Incogni doesn’t just search on you.
Data brokers collect information on your family and known acquaintances, helping them to build a complete profile of you.
Incogni searches in the same way to ensure they locate every broker and deal with them properly.
How To Get Started
Getting started with Incogni is easy. You’ll need to visit their website and select the ‘start now’ option.
This will cause a box to pop up and ask for your email address. You’ll also need to create a password, which you should tell no one. Even Incogni won’t know what it is.
Once you’ve done that you can choose your subscription level.
The choice is either an annual contract or a month-by-month one. The annual contract is paid in a lump sum and offers much better value.
After selecting the subscription level you will need to provide a few more personal details.
I personally like the fact Incogni doesn’t go over the top, they ask for just enough information to find your data records.
With this done, Incogni is nearly ready to swing into action.
But before they can, you’ll need to sign a limited power of attorney. This allows them to tell the data brokers to remove your data.
Once you’ve done those simple steps, Incogni will start the data removing process for you.
Pricing Structure
There are two options when it comes to paying for your Incogni subscription.
The first is an annual payment. You’re effectively signing up to the service for a year and it will cost you $89.99, that’s just $7.49 a month.
Alternatively, you can choose the monthly option.
This is renewed every month and can be canceled at any time. It will cost you $14.98 a month.
Naturally, if you only use the service for three or four months it is cheaper to pay monthly.
However, there is a good reason to sign up for the annual option.
Data brokers are required by law to remove your data within 30-45 days of your request.
There is no legal requirement to keep your data off their system. Most brokers will add your data back onto their database after two or three months.
If you’ve signed up for the annual service Incogni will detect this and resend the removal request.
However, if you’re paying monthly and the subscription has lapsed, Incogni won’t do anything and your data will be exposed online again.
It’s a constant battle and choosing an annual membership is the most effective way to keep your data safe.
Top Features
I used Incogni for three months and was impressed with the results.
In fact, I was so impressed that I have since signed up for an annual contract. Here are the features I thought stood out best:
Periodic Updates
I have little doubt that this was my favorite feature. At first I checked the Incogni dashboard all the time.
It told me about the requests that had been sent, how many had already been successful, which were being queried, and the number still being processed.
I even looked at the detail concerning each data broker.
But once I’d been using the service for a few weeks I stopped looking at the dashboard.
That’s because Incogni sent me a weekly update report via email. I didn’t need to log in to check how the removals were going!
The periodic updates were perfect at keeping me in the loop.
30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
Another top feature which I haven’t used is the 30-day money-back guarantee.
Incogni doesn’t offer a free trial of their product and it is highly unlikely you’ll want your money back.
But knowing that it is an option means you can sign up for the service and effectively try it for free.
If you don’t like it, quit within 30 days and demand your money back. It’s a clever safety net.
It doesn’t just inspire you to try the service. It also tells you that Incogni believes in its own product.
Ease Of use
I’ve already talked about how to get started with Incogni and the process couldn’t be simpler. Unlike many data removal services, Incogni opts for less information.
They need your name, address, date of birth, and contact details. That’s enough for them to find your data without risking your privacy further.
All data is stored securely in the cloud and encrypted, ensuring others can’t access it.
To check progress you can view the periodic update or log into Incogni and view the dashboard.
It tells you everything, is easy to read, and is intuitive.
Customer Support
You probably won’t experience any issues. However, if you do you’ll be pleased to note Incogni has a first-class customer support team.
The simplest way to contact them is via live chat.
This works at any time of the day or night and you’ll get a fast and friendly response. The team is professional and friendly.
It’s also possible to contact them via email or even directly on the telephone.
In all situations you’ll find the customer support department offers the very best possible service. That’s a nice change in the modern digital world.
Annual Discount
I’ve already talked about the pricing structure and why the annual payment and contract are a better option.
However, it’s worth noting as a top feature.
The annual discount doesn’t just make the subscription affordable or cost-effective.
It’s cheaper than the competition and ensures your data stays removed from the various data broker databases.
It’s surprising how comforting that thought is.
Downsides Of Incogni
No system, program or app is perfect. While I could find very little wrong with Incogni it’s worth noting the following:
No Free Trial
Incogni doesn’t offer a free trial. Technically you can subscribe and get a refund within a month, creating a free trial.
However, this won’t be enough time to really evaluate the service.
I found three months much better. That means there is no free trial to help you decide.
Of course, offering a free trial would be difficult. Incogni would start removing data from your file, only to have you quit before you’ve paid them anything.
That’s not good business practice.
Data Disclosure Limited
Incogni offers you an overview of how data brokers have reacted and which ones need further chasing.
You can also drill into the detail and find specific brokers who have not yet removed data or have requested additional information.
That’s all good, but you can’t see details on a specific broker. There is no way of verifying what data an individual broker may be holding on you.
It’s frustrating and could be harmful to you in the future.
Summing Up
I was lucky enough to have a free trial of the software, supplied to me by Incogni.
Having tried it I would be very comfortable recommending it to anyone.
This review shows it has several great features and that the system is very easy to use.
What it doesn’t show is how effective it is.
There is little doubt Incogni is one of the best data removal services currently available. Try it for yourself.
