Before we discuss how many employees work at Google, we need to address the fact that they just laid off around 12,000 employees so far in 2023, which accounted for 6% of their previous staff. 

According to the New York Post, Google, along with Amazon and Meta started hiring lower paid foreign workers after the layoffs in the United States.

We would like to follow that by saying that these huge corporations did provide ample severance packages for those they laid off earlier this year.

Also, there is news that 400 layoffs are to begin in India soon.

These major companies say that due to over-hiring during the pandemic and the losses in revenue during that time, they are laying off to preserve their companies.

This seems to be common across tech companies nowadays. Across Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and LinkedIn, employees average ages range from 28 to 33.

Google claims to be a company with a diverse workforce, which is true with few exceptions.

Where there is inequality in the workforce in most big companies today, there is likely not a large enough pool of applicants since the pandemic.

Otherwise, Google has a very diverse employee base in more than 100 countries.

Now that that housekeeping is out of the way, let’s look at Google’s workforce.


The most recent data available reveals that there are 60% male workers compared to 40% female workers at Google.


Google, like most big corporations today, hires young talent.

Some people believe they are practicing ageism, while others just believe this is the status quo in society today.

The average age of a Google employee is 29 years old. Around 60% of Google’s workforce falls between 20 and 30 years old.

Only 7% of Google’s employees are 40 or older, while just below 20% of workers are between 30 and 40. 

The 18 to 20-year-old group is represented at 11%, and the below 18-year-old crowd represent 2% of Google’s workforce.


In terms of race, Caucasians make up the bulk of Google’s workforce at 46.8%.

The Asian demographic at Google accounts for 25.2% and the Latino/Hispanic demographic accounts for 14.8%. 

While around 5% of Google employees don’t share their race or ethnicity, the Black/African American community is represented at 8.2% of Google’s workforce.


Most of Google’s employees hold at least a bachelor’s degree at 66.8%. Google workers with a master’s degree make up 14.5% of the employee base.

Those with an associate’s degree account for only 8.8% of the workforce.

Believe it or not, a business degree is the most held degree at Google at 19.7%. Employees with Computer Science degrees come in second at 14.5%.

Those with marketing degrees account for 7.4%.


Google has the most employees in their New York, New York offices with 261 people.

San Francisco, California has 156 employees, and Seattle, Washington has 123 Google employees. 

Out of the other United States locations, they have fewer than 100 employees each, which only five employees in their Dallas, Texas, Columbus, Ohio, Detroit, Michigan, and Kansas City, Missouri offices.

Henderson, Nevada has only 3 Google employees, according to Zippia.

How Much Do Google Employees Make?

How much a company like Google pays is a direct identifier for most job seekers.

You’ll be happy to know that most of their employees make in excess of $100,000 per year.

The most recent data we could find shows that the largest salary range is from $100,000 to $200,000 at Google, which accounts for 89.5% of salaries.

Only 5.1% of Google’s employees make between $60,000 and $100,000 per year and 5.4% are making over $200,000 per year.

For reference, there are no jobs or nothing measurable anyway that pay less than $60,000 per year.
